Why Green Tea Is So Popular

It's not hard to see exactly why green tea is so popular. It's tasty, it has a rich history that is still vibrant today, and of course, there are health benefits to drinking green tea.

There are many different reasons why people drink green tea every day, but the most common reason boils down to its potent antioxidant properties. These antioxidants can help fight off free radical damage, reduce inflammation, and even support a healthy weight. It's also a great option to drink while intermittent fasting, whether you’re fasting for its health benefits or religious reasons, making it a healthier choice than other common beverages like diet sodas.

Add in the other benefits like better cardiovascular health, improved brain function, and more energy throughout the day, and it's easy to see why green tea is so popular.

The Origins of the Green Tea Shot

Green Tea Takes the World by Storm

It's easy to see why green tea is so popular, but what you might not know is how this drink became a staple in the lives of people all over the world.

Green tea's history traces back to ancient China where the tea was used for medicinal purposes. In fact, it's said that green tea can be traced back to 2737 BC when a Chinese emperor boiled water, and leaves from the plant were found in his pot after testing positive for polyphenol antioxidants!

In later years, green tea became popular throughout all of Asia as people appreciated its wide variety of uses. It was used to treat everything from the common cold to all sorts of skin conditions like acne and eczema.

As green tea became more popular throughout Asia, it eventually made its way around the world as trade routes opened up between countries in Europe and North America. As people were exposed to this new drink, they quickly realized the various benefits it had on health and well-being.

In fact, green tea has been a part of Japanese culture for centuries—it's said that Zen Buddhist monks drank green tea during long meditation sessions due to its ability to help people focus their minds more clearly.

Now, green tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, with an estimated 600,000 tons consumed around the world each year.

Morning Health Boost

So it makes sense that a green tea shot would come to be! After all,  a green tea shot is a quick and easy way to get the health benefits of green tea in a convenient, tasty package.

A morning version of your regular cup of joe can be helpful for those who need an extra boost throughout their day. Drinking this type of green tea shot early on supplies caffeine as well as other nutrients that may be lacking in our diets.

This morning version can help to improve your mood, reduce stress levels, increase energy and focus, all without having too much caffeine throughout the day.

The Evening Balance

And for some people, a green tea shot has taken a fun twist, adding a health boost to some more party-oriented shots.

In fact, green tea shots (if you're enjoying some alcohol responsibly) can be a great way to reduce the negative effects of alcohol consumption and balance a little bit of flavor and health with your fun.

The Pretty Awesome Benefits of A Daily Green Tea Shot

First, we'll discuss a bit about the benefits of your daily green tea shot. As a part of your day, there's a lot you can gain from a little morning shot of green tea.

Then we'll break down green tea shot recipes with a little more of a twist!

First, on how you can improve your life!

Improved Heart Health

First and foremost, a daily green tea shot can help improve your heart health. As we discussed earlier in this post, the main compound of interest is EGCG which has been found to reduce platelet aggregation or 'stickiness' of blood cells.

In fact, studies on rats have shown that chronic ingestion of green tea catechins found in green tea significantly reduces your risk of heart disease.

Staying Sharp

Another way green tea shots can help improve your health is by increasing cognitive function and memory.

As we age, our brain cells decrease in number as well as the connections between them—this process can lead to things like decreased concentration and focus (we've all been there). Green tea shots have been found to increase blood flow around the body which can also help with this process.

Add in the fact that a green tea shot is a great natural source of caffeine, which in small quantities can help improve memory and concentration, and we have a great combination.

Losing Weight

You may not have realized it,  but drinking green tea can help you lose weight!

In fact, green tea is a known fat-burner, and it works by increasing your metabolism while also stopping the formation of new fatty acids—all this means that if you want to lose some pounds fast, here's where it starts!

It should also be noted that caffeine can help you lose weight by increasing fat oxidation and improving physical performance.

Boosted Immunity

Another way that your daily green tea shot can help improve your health is by boosting immunity.

First off, green tea is a powerful antioxidant,  meaning it can help reduce the effects of oxidative stress, which is known to weaken your immune system.

Another great way it can help you fight off colds and illness is by increasing immune system activity. Studies have shown that green tea's catechins are even more effective than some over-the-counter flu medications at preventing symptoms.

Long Term Health

A green tea shot is also great for you in the long term!

As you age, many people are at risk for developing chronic illnesses like cancer and heart disease.

But one of the most powerful ways green tea shots can protect against this is by fighting oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a process where free radicals attack your cells and DNA, which can lead to serious damage—including a weakened immune system or cancerous mutations.

Keeping a daily green tea shot in your routine keeps your antioxidants high and your health in high gear.

Great Taste!

And another reason we all know green tea shots are awesome is that they taste great!

So, if you're looking for a way to boost your health and have fun in the process—try out some green tea shots. Even with alcoholic green tea drinks, you can turn vice into a big victory.

Green Tea Shots for Fun!

And while we're talking about the fun side of a green tea shot, we've got a green tea shot recipe (or a few) with a few more fun green tea shot ingredients.

Jameson Whiskey Green Tea

The first idea we have is Jameson Whiskey Green Tea.

This one's pretty simple: brew some green tea and sweeten it with honey or simple syrup—then add a shot of Jameson whiskey for the ultimate Irish experience! (Tip: make your own ginger beer to mix if you want!)

A lot of people prefer American Whiskey in their drinks, which is totally fine, but when it comes down to it, we have a hard time recommending this green tea shot recipe with anything but that classic Irish whiskey from Jameson Whiskey Company.

Peach Schnapps and Sour Mix

Another very, very popular mix is the peach schnapps and sour mix blend with a green tea shot.

If you want to go the extra mile, this is one green tea shot recipe that works best with actual green tea and homemade peach schnapps. The problem comes from using a store-bought solution—most of them are infused with color and sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup.

The concoction is simple: brew your green tea, then mix with equal parts sour mix and peach schnapps. Then just add in some simple syrup or honey to sweeten it up, and shake, strain into your shot glasses, or simply pour over ice cubes. Then presto, you've got your peach schnapps and green tea shot recipe!

You can also go with alternatives to sour mix like lime juice, lemon-lime soda, sweet AND sour mix, or any other version of schnapps. We just love peach schnapps as our favorite!

Sweet and Sour Green Tea

Another version of the sweet and sour green tea shot recipe involves going all-in on the sweet and sour mix or alternatives. Whether it's lemon-lime soda, lime juice, or lemon juice, the sweet and sour combination is a great way to balance out all those green tea benefits.

To prepare this one, simply mix your green tea in a cocktail shaker with lemon-lime soda, then shake vigorously and pour from the cocktail shaker into your shot glasses (or shot glass!) for a favorite alcoholic drink.

The key here though? Make sure you're using natural sugars or honey—not high fructose corn syrup! Also, the combination of green tea, lemon, ginger, and honey is one of the most potent cocktails around.
