How To Prepare Your Antioxidant Tea


Unlike other teas, preparing green tea is slightly different.  In order to prevent a bitter taste, you should use hot, not boiling water, and pour it over the leaves.

Using hot water (below 90 degrees), preserves the antioxidants, therefore allowing them to rush through your body, and prevent damage to your cells and DNA.

Here’s what you need to prepare the best green tea:

Green Tea leaves—1 tsp per cup
Cup
Stainless Steel Pot
1 Cup of water

Step 1

Add 1 tsp of green tea leaves to your cup.  If you want to prepare more than one cup, add one tsp of green tea to each cup you want to prepare.

Step 2

Add water to your teapot and set the temperature to warm up the water. 
Remember, you don’t want to boil the water, so be sure to watch your teapot to make sure it’s not boiling.  Remove the teapot when the water temperature reaches 85 to 90 degrees.

Step 3

Pour the hot water over the leaves, and let steep for 3 minutes.  You can use a strainer for this step, where you place the strainer, filled with tea leaves, into your cup and let the leaves steep in the water and strainer.

Step 4

Remove the tea leaves from the water, and add 1 tsp honey, a splash of lemon, or other spices to your tea.

**NOTE**

By adding lemon to your tea, you may protect the antioxidants from damage from the heat, therefore keeping the compounds intact.

This could ensure that you’re maintaining a high level of antioxidants with each cup of green tea you consume.

Adding honey may enhance your drinking experience.  Honey is packed full of antioxidants, therefore increasing the antioxidant capacity of your body.

Other fruits or spices that people often add to when preparing their tea may include: Ginger, Turmeric, cayenne pepper, peppermint, and citrus fruit (like oranges).
