Although intermittent fasting has been around for quite some time, in many different forms, it hasn’t been until recently that people have taken to it as a diet to improve their health.

But there are questions that may come up about intermittent fasting that may confuse and hinder your results.

For example, what can you eat during your intermittent fast?  OR … can you drink anything during a fast?

What Is Intermittent Fasting?

Although intermittent fasting has been around for a very long time (religions practice fasting all the time), it’s a diet plan that has just recently started to gain in popularity.

And the reason for this is simple:

It works.  Intermittent fasting may:

• Lower blood sugar and insulin levels
• Burn body fat
• Improve type 2 diabetes
• Improved memory and concentration
• Lower cholesterol and blood pressure
• And many, many more.

The diet is sustainable and easy to include in your daily life.  It relies on two different periods: a feeding and a fasting window.

During the feeding window, you are allowed to eat anything you want (but good, wholesome, plant-based nutrition will give you better results) as long as they are eaten during this window.

But it gets a little bit trickier during the fasting window.  Most people believe they can have some calories, as long as it doesn’t surpass 50 calories.

In a true intermittent fast, you should abstain from anything that contains calories. 

No fresh fruit or fruit juices … no sugar or cream … and no artificial ingredients.

This will ensure that you’re doing everything you can to improve your health and lose the weight you want.

But why can’t you have calories?

When you eat food, different reactions occur that will boost digestion.

Once the food is digested, your blood sugar will start to increase.

When this happens, your body will secrete insulin to take care of the rising blood sugar.

It will either be used for energy or stored as fat, depending on how much sugar is in the blood.

But when you’re in a true fast, your body isn’t digesting food … there is no insulin response … and there is no storing of the excess nutrients.

All you’re doing is burning the stored energy in your liver, your muscles, and in other organs.

This results in lower body fat, less disease-causing visceral fat, and other improvements in your health.

As you know, staying hydrated is extremely important for your health.  And that’s why drinking water and tea is extremely important during your intermittent fast.

Skipping out on food is something that you may be able to do relatively easily.

In fact, people all over the world fast for specific periods of time during religious holidays, special events, or just to cleanse their bodies and souls.

And they report that it’s not so much the food they can’t go without … it’s the liquids.  That’s why it’s important to stay hydrated during your fasting window.

If you’re not consuming enough liquids (such as water or tea), then you may find that you’re lacking energy … concentration may be off … and you may have foggy or cloudy thinking.

That is why it’s important to maintain hydration by sipping on water or green tea.

Since your body is about 70 percent water, you would automatically assume that drinking more water would be important.
